OUR STORY

From a busy life to one of the most charming corners in the Eastern Algarve, Cristina and José Carlos had their own ideas on how to make the most of life, where time is a precious commodity. The proximity of the other hotel, Conversas de Alpendre, where they can watch their grandson Francisco grow up, the charm of Tavira, with its scissor roofs and the beauty of the Ria Formosa, challenged them to recover and decorate an old mansion where they joined art, "charm" and comfort.

The architecture and the original walls and stones were respected and modernity was combined with the decoration. A space of details and stories was created, with Tavira in the center and in the center of Tavira.

The history of this charming building dates back to the mid-18th century, when King D. João V offered the Cozinheiro Real, from Tavira, as a form of gratitude for his loyalty and service to the court, a large part of land around Tavira . The mansion was a typical manor house of the time, it incorporates an architectural trend very typical of the Algarve region – the scissor roof. After this property passed from generation to generation over decades, in 1957, the palace became a male boarding school for Nossa Senhora das Mercês and later in 1971 it served as the local section of the Lyceum of Faro.

With the construction of schools in the southwest part of the city, the building was abandoned, remained empty and dilapidated for around 30 years, becoming known as the haunted house. Now our hotel has as a joke the continuity of a school, each room is named after a girl protected by the angels Francisco and Gabriel, where the rectors are always keeping a watchful eye...
